Just bought a 2000 Ranger XLT extra cab for my son (first car/truck). After further inspection, not such a great deal on this one.

My first problem is that we can turn the car on by pushing, readjusting the key in the ignition to get to the on position. This works 1 out of every 10-12 tries, unless you get really frustrated and then your about 1 every 20 times.

When I test drove it, it started right away -- the magic touch.

Figuring that the cylinder (which is slightly out) is not finding the right pins when turned. Figuring on replacing the cylinder key, but no idea how to do it.

Would appreciate the help.

The previous owner had one key, but lost the remote access fob (couldn't get it to work).

Problems with power door switch, too, but that's another thread/search.

Thanks!
