How much power can my transmission and bottom end handle?

I haul scrap, and I don't want to blow my motor. I'll be upgrading my rear axle to the 32 spline shortly, plus the 1 ton helper springs. I'd like to add some power to tow a little easier, but I don't know how much the trans and motor can take.

2007 4.0l 4x4 MANUAL will legally tow 3,080lbs
With automatic that goes up to 5,560lbs

Manual transmission just can't take that much torque, they are rated at 331ft/lb
Automatic is 550ft/lb

The engine, rear axles and brakes are the same on either manual or auto models, so they can handle up to 5,560lbs, its just the transmission that's the concern

Doesn't matter what you change unless you change the vehicle, lol, the Ford spec is what the Legal limit is based on

You CAN tow more weight, the vehicle will handle it, you will just be on the road illegally so keep that in mind, insurance companies do

Well maybe not

Meaning if you qualified for a Class B then you would have learned you can't operate an overloaded vehicle on Public roads :)
So if you were caught doing that then your Class B qualification would be in question, lol

A Class B license is not a license to operate above the legal weight rating of a vehicle. :icon_confused:

Yes, and no speed limit either with Class B, Red lights and Stop signs are also optional

My trailer won't handle more than 2 tons anyway. So it doesn't matter
