How do you remove this clip easily?

I use a small flat screwdriver to bend the little tangs away from the threads on the stud. Then it just slides off easily and goes into the scrap metal pile.

It's easier to remove if you insert a small screwdriver under the ears an pry a few of them back. Doing this allows you to reuse the clips. To reuse, just tap the ears back down with a hammer, works every time.

Those clips are installed during original assembly to hold the rotors and drums in place and make things easier for the assembly line worker.

Keeping them is up to the individual and are not necessary for safe operation.

Same with the screws on rotors. I usually chuck them right in the trash. The wheel holds the rotor on. There is no practical use for the screws after it leaves the assembly line. Especially here in the north where they are almost always so rusted on that they strip out and need to be destroyed to remove. They only exist so the car can be sent down the assembly line without the rotor/drum falling off before the wheels get mounted.

I never had a problem with the screws but I never reinstalled them more than snug. However, you are not wrong either.

No, but if a drum fell off, he is enough of an A-hole that he would have put the tire on anyway.

The trucks were coming down the line without the clips. The drums were loose, and sitting crooked. That made it more difficult for him to do his job in the time he had.
Most stations on the line have a little more time than the tire guys. The big lug nut gun (installed and torqued all 5 lug nuts at the same time.) didn’t have tons of side to side movement. If it took too long to seat the wheel, than you could not have enough time to fully torque that wheel before you ran out of side travel.
So he shut the line down and told his supervisor to “make that motherf****er do his job right, so I can do my job right”. His supervisor came back with a handful of those clips, which my father promptly smacked to the ground.

Braking issue -

symptoms - lack of stopping power and noise from right rear

Solution - install a drum on the right rear wheel.

most factory wheels have a small pocket on the mounting surface around each stud to make room for the clips.
some aftermarket wheels don't, in which case the clips can cause a poorly mounted wheel.
I ditch 'em.

I beg to differ. My robots argue way too much. Besides, the robots can only do so much. There is a lot of equipment that "assists" the employees to reduce ergonomic injuries. The assembly lines, these days are amazing. There are still a lot of people involved.
