Hi all,

Just wondering how would I find out what trim spec my ranger was origianly (S, XLT etc)

It has no badges on it, I can confirm its a 1986 2.9 v6 single cab 7ft bed 2WD. From new it has the bucket seats, rev counter, 5 speed manual, bed light, black plastic flag mirrors, A/C, black bumpers (although I'm not sure if these have been painted) and 14x6 10 hole split rim look alloys.

The sub-model and options are tied to the serial number so would be in Ford database "as built" but not sure Ford would still have that info for 1986, they did have a service where you could pay for a reprint of the window sticker, I think it was $20-$30

You could go here: https://www.therangerstation.com/articles/ford-ranger-brochures/

We don't have a 1986 brochure but there is a 1985 brochure and a list of standard features on sub-models

You have a Long Bed(7') Ranger which was only available in 2WD and Regular cab

You can look at your drivers door label, seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/axle_codes.shtml
It won't tell you the sub-model but does have info on what was put on it at the factory
i.e. springs and axle

More here on that door label: https://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Summer2009/federal_sticker.shtml

4wds could be long bed....

Its hard to tell honestly unless you ordered a marti report. Is the badge still on the dash plastic above the glovebox?

I think base models just said "ranger" while XL's. XLTs, and STXs said the trim level.

Its hard to go by options...cause you could dress a base model up pretty fancy or have a pretty stripped

85_ranger4x4 (not sure if I spelled it right) is a longbed 4wd. Green truck, originally a V6 auto, now a 302 manual, from Iowa.

Ive always wanted to build a supercab longbed, only have ever seen 1, obviously custom modified as longbeds only came with a reg cab.
