Oh, BTW, the U.S. Government lost more than 100 million in the GM bailout. Our so I've heard.
Tax payer's money. So WE lost that money if it's true.

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
My two cents, having quickly read all 8 pages here...I've been leery of Fords ever since around 1975, when working on a car at a Chevron station out in the driveway, I had to go into the bays for another tool. (Working on a t-stat at the front of the car, with my back to the bay inside.)
If I had stayed there for another 30 seconds I'd have been in a wheelchair ever since.
A mechanic working on a '65 Ford LTD walked away from it for a second while it was idling in the bay. It went into reverse by itself and backed 40 ft. down a slope into the front of the car I had been working on, banging bumper to bumper. I came back to the car and was WTF?
It was in the media for awhile after that as it seemed to be a problem with those full size Fords.

Later, in the early 90's I needed a full size wagon for my work. Bought a '90 Taurus wagon, then a couple years later a '92 Taurus wagon and both were good cars, both bought used. AC was superior to my mom's friend's Lexus. But seat mounts inside the cars rusted and although they held up, their transes were suspect. Really had no complaints with those two.
Now this '01 Ranger that I'm saving from the junkyard. Fit and finish suck. Door panels, door strikers, rusting seat mounts, window glass leaks, plastic heater cores that fail and nearly impossible to replace, rear suicide door cables using plastic locking ends that break, making it impossible to open the door.
Luckily I found the fix on u tube with aircraft aluminum end pieces.
But the point is Ford could build a better car and truck if it wanted to.
Now, depending on where you look online, you see Ford's total debt at $49. billion to $103 billion. Billions.
Did I read correctly Ford gave BLM $100 million?
Rant over. Thanks for reading.
An ‘01 Ranger is 20 years old. Cars aren’t built to last 20 years... no mater who manufactures it. If they were, no one would buy new cars. Most manufacturers consider 7-10 years a cars lifespan.

7-10 years is just getting broken in.

I dont mind ford. The Tritons and 03-10 diesels were not a great time but they got it back together. Their first cvts were also a trip on the ole pebble sack.

Also imo the Maverick looks like a lowered honda ridgeline.

Pebbles and the airbag light on your car here are a bit disconcerting for you and tremendous cost around a lot more power that's not covered in the water.

I don't understand what you mean by this but it is spotless and I'm sure you get up to the inspection station for a few days.

I've had a few Tauruses in my day:
  • 1990 wagon
    • had a sticking caliper from day one.
    • alternator light on from the first time we washed it, but the alternator kept the battery charged
    • replaced a power steering line after it blew
    • A/C compressor (or the clutch for same) seized
    • All of those things were pretty minor
  • 1991 (Sable) wagon
    • replaced or cleaned the MAF three times within a period of three months
    • transmission slipped shifting between 1 and 2 under hard accelleration
      • ONLY if you held your foot on the floor through the shift, if you backed off, let it shift, and then put your foot back to the floor, it shifted fine
    • A/C never worked
    • Cruise control never worked
    • no other problems
  • 1995 sedan
    • This is my current car
    • this car does not like the cold (below 0*F
      • if it sits outside in the cold for too long after it's been started, it won't start.
      • but if it's not plugged in, and started cold, it will start
    • seems to have a sticking caliper.
  • 1998 (Sable) sedan
    • Cruise didn't work
    • A/C didn't work
    • Power steering was stiff
    • car was on it's second engine
None of my Tauruses have had problems with seat mounts.

I *REALLY* wanted to quote your post to compare my 2004 Focus with my 2003 Sunfire and my 2004 Chevrolet (Daewoo Kalos) Aveo
  • Sunfire GT model
    • felt like a bigger car than it was, driving it
      • seemed to have a wide turning radius
    • lacked features that the Aveo (cheaper car!) had
      • The Aveo had a holder for sunglasses above the Driver's door
        • Sunfire didn't
      • The Aveo had a clip for the Driver's floor mat
        • Sunfire didn't
    • With 63,000km on the clock, we put a new engine in it
      • Blew the front main seal and lost all of it's oil
    • Shortly after we bought it we replaced the coil
    • The mechanic who replaced the engine found a broken motor mount
    • When I traded it in (about 5,000km after I replaced the engine, it was running rough
  • 2004 Focus
    • SE model with sport appearance package
    • Tighter turning radius than the "sports car" sunfire
    • Had a brake job before I took delivery
    • Timing belt had jumped a tooth
      • repaired before I took delivery
    • Improper/incomplete repairs after rear end collision
      • something was wrong in the rear suspension. On ice, the car was extremely unstable, the back end shook
      • Trunk lid latch was sticky
    • None of these issues were issues that I would consider to by typical of a 2004 Ford Focus SE sedan with a Z-Tec engine.
    • This car was far more comfortable than the Sunfire.
'nuff said. I'll buy a beat up Ford before I buy a GM any day. By the way, we had very few problems with the Aveo, other than a short in the heater fan circuit.

G8or, agree... all the mfrs. have issues. The new Camrys have plastic or nylon throughout the door and body panels, even in the door well threshold...saw a video of a guy just putting light pressure on the panels and seeing them flex inward.
But how much of the decline in quality we see (in all cars/trucks) is due the the CAFE standards the fed. gov. requires for improved fuel economy?
Mfrs. are forced to make them lighter and lighter to meet CAFE.
Then there's this video a friend sent about planned obsolescence. from iphones to lightbulbs and more.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.

Are you suggesting that beaurocracy is ruining things? How outrageous.
