I've been hearing that so much that I figured I should learn what it means.

We had heating oil at my parents, because the distance to next neighbour (>8 km) and the need to bury lines >8' down to avoid frost heaving meant that it wasn't economical to pipe natural gas. And while the tank was outside, we never had issues with oil flowing no matter how cold it got. A little further north, you get permafrost and you have to insulate the lines and hope.

Propane liquifies at -40 and standard pressure. So, while natural gas gets lazy, propane stops vaporizing completely. (True natural gas doesn't liquify until -160* C).

Rough when you just get the steak started on the barbie and flame flickers out, but..​

Nothing more exciting than running a tiger torch across a 100lb propane cylinder to keep it warmed up enough to allow you to keep the cattle waterer thawed in -45 temperatures.​

Heat pumps really don't work below -4*F/-15*C and if you're going to have to put in a furnace anyways, why make your heat pump work hard.

Around here, heating oil used to be cheap but from some of the prices people have been saying they have has to pay for a month’s worth of fuel, I say that ship has passed.

I lived in a house that had a heat pump at one point. It was ok but even with the all electric house discount, I think it was more expensive than natural gas. Of course, the water heater was electric as was the stove and oven. So, that may be why. Stand alone with something else for heating water and cooking, it might have made a difference.

Natural gas seems to be the best bang for the buck here. Other locations in the country may be different.

I have propane for my kitchen stove, that’s it. Got rid of the propane water heater. This way I don’t need to have the propane delivered. I just swap around 40lb bottles every few months.

In the winter I have to go an thaw out the regulator because the condensation in the lines freezes.

Last year I wrapped the regulator in heat tape, problem solved.
The rapid expansion from the fuel leaving the tank can cause the tank to frost up and flow too slow. Need a big tank if you plan on using a high draw appliance.

we have propane here, furnace/range/ventless heater in the addition. At one time I heated with wood, years ago though, getting too old for that even if it was a bargain for heating costs, never did do the math on bar oil/chainsaw gas to see what was really spent.

Don’t forget your time. That isn’t free either. It just depends on one’s priorities and what is important to them as to whether it’s worth it or not.

Given the really low riding cars and crossovers of today, I'd say snow plowing is pretty common .

I have this stupid airdam on my F-150 that one way or another is going to go away.

It’s just riveted to the bottom of the bumper. Irritating, but easy to remove.

Nice considered at ting an air damn to my ranger. I figured it may give me 1/4mpg or something.
Also figured it would get ripped off in short order, so I never worked on it.

I managed to rip off the one on my stand and that one wasn’t even that low.
