Have any of you seen this on the Discovery Channel? What a load of crap. Every one of the trappers is like "oh, this pig will feed a lot of people." I think that implies that they're going to kill it, yet they lasso the pig, stick their foot on it's throat and try to seem all badass. Myself, I'd be carrying a 9mm on my hip, my rifle of choice and kill that SOB the second I saw it.

Stupidist thing I've ever seen. We've got millions (literally) of feral hogs in TX. Ranchers beg for you to kill them.

Sorry /end rant

I can see this turning into another 'bacon' thread, but from a different angle.

Maybe they just want to relocate them to the grill and cast iron skillet.

Yeah..I've seen it.

I was asking myself the same question. A gun would go a long way in that show.

The episode I saw had a guy follow an injured hog(that he had just shot with an arrow) into a series of tunnels in 8ft tall grass to go pull it out. This was in Hawaii.

Same episode...they let their dog(a pitbull) go to find/catch the hog but it almost got ripped to bits..and they were more concerned with doing the lasso/step on its head thing than actually kicking ass and getting the dog out of harms way.

I dub him....domestic doorgunner! :D

That was awesome. Makes it look like nobody in the show knows what they're doing.
They may know, but they're pussy-footing around PETA or something like that. On a lease in South TX I hunt at, they had a dog get damned near ripped to pieces by one. When your $5k hunting dogs start getting hurt, it's time to put the hurt on the pigs.

Damn straight. The dogs should be trackers only and trained to keep their distance.

You hear gun shots around here once in a while.

Farmers are allowed to shoot anything that's on their land that's threatening their livestock around here. Even if the farm land is within a residential area.

Shows like "Hogs Gone Wild" are only trying to make bank on some illussion that people who don't hunt have that "real mean wrassle them suckers down". I watched two minutes of of an episode and these people were trying to find a hog for their dog to fight to "teach it not to be afraid" when the ****ing hog is 3.5 times the size of the dog.

Helicopter + rifle is a damn good way to hunt anything.

What I didn't like is they take a rather sedate pig, lasso it, kick it a couple times (or something to that effect) and then rant and rave about how dangerous they are. Dunno of a single animial that wouldn't react the same way to the same treatment.

Can't stand the show and don't watch it. The old Sam Colt saying about making people equal counts with animals too. If they are a problem (and I know they are) I would just as soon pop them from a distance than wrestle in the dirt with them. :icon_thumby:

It would be much more interesting to watch if they did it to people.

In Hawaii its actually law that you can only hunt hogs with a dog and knife, something to do with preserving the way the indigenous peoples of the island hunted and to keep people from killing them off entirely. Personally it might be fun to hunt them on the ground but ill be using a semi-auto slug gun thank you very much. Oh and the dudes that are throwing their dogs in there after damn hogs? they should be banned from possessing anything that breathes

Jester - I couldn't see that video at work today - YouTube blocked - that was bad-ass. Down here, the best way to get rid of them is put a bunch of corn in a barrel and fill it up with water. Let it ferment a bit and put it in a hog trap.
