High pressure switch?

My compressor is new but not shutting off. I think I need to replace the high pressure switch. I’ve located it... do I need to evacuate system to replace this or does it have a valve? This is on a 95 ranger 2.3

Not sure on the 95's, but I just spent the evening tracing the A/C wiring on my 94 and power goes from the ac switch on the heat/ac control panel to the low pressure switch, then out to the high pressure switch and into the PCM. So if the 95 is like my 94, it could be the high or low side switch.

As far as I known automotive AC pressure switches can be changed without releasing pressure in the system

You should be able to replace the switch without evacuating the system, that is if the valve isn't stuck partially or fully open once the switch is removed. Yes, in a properly working system you can replace the switch without evacuating the system, just keep in mind if the valve isn't any good it'll empty the system out for you wear protective gear just to be safe.

I need to wire-in a high pressure switch for my application. Was the wiring you traced from the low pressure switch to the high pressure switch just an inline splice or a special harness?

Just to be clear... depending on ambient temps and humidity levels... the compressor may very well run constantly. The high pressure cut off switch is there to protect the system from over pressuring and open the control circuit in the event there is a problem. If the A/C system is properly transferring heat and working within the thresholds of the low and high pressure switches... it is normal for the compressor to run constantly.

It was part of the factory harness. Was part of a harness that runs from the left side to the right side.
