The coolant flow was changed in the 3.8 for front wheel drive applications and all hell broke loose, we had practically no trouble with 3.8's in F100's, Mustangs, T birds, and down sized(fox body) LTD's.The FWD 3.8 (found in Taurus and Windstar among other vehicles) was prone to head gasket failure.
