Hello I finally got my ranger running again after pulling the engine and rebuilding it and running into problem after problem im hoping to finally be able to drive my truck again but the issue now is i dont want to leave it running long because of the horrid ticking its making and and i also think there was something starting to smoke on the passenger rear side of the engine bay but i did follow the valve lash guides on this site as well as i could but i will submit a video of it running for the experts here to help me out lol oh also the battery light stays on and it has a brand new battery and the alternator was good before pulling it all apart also the heads and engine block seem to get fairly hot after not running long at all like the radiator hoses were still cold
Link to hear the awful noise lol

Oh... yes, you need to give setting the hydraulic lifter preload AGAIN! That may be all you did WRONG, the 2.9 doesn't get a lash adjustment, it requires a lifter preload setting.

On the heat side, it is possible to have installed the thermostat backwards. Also, even a brand new from.the package component can fail or malfunction.

So what I did was start at cylinder 1 on the compression strike TDC and loosened the the rockers until there was a reasonable gap then ran them down until they touched the spring then gave them 1.5 turns after that and repeated in that to all the cylinder in firing order is that the wrong method or could’ve I turned them to far or not enough and is there a way of knowing lol
