My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
There's some good options out there these days. I got one off fleabay that comes with a fan shroud (makes a big difference), it fit fine.

You probably will like the flex a lite options, but they are spendy.

how much horsepower? if its a stockish roller engine hyundai fans...hell anything that will fit works.

if you are exceeding 300 hp....you need to open up the core...which will allow you to locate the radiator forward....and put a real radiator in there....with real airflow..

then you can use whatever fan you want. mechanical or electrical.

How much room you have depends on what front accessories and what radiator you have. I have the Duff/Northern radiator in mine and '86-91 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis accessories... I hardly have room for electric fans and a mechanical one definitely doesn't fit. Explorer 5.0 front accessories open up a lot more possiblities. I had to run two fans (pusher/puller on both sides of the radiator) and had to cut out some of the grille to fit the outer fan.

Careful parts selection will help you a lot. This article may be helpful in selecting front accessories/timing cover/water pump so that you have the most room possible:

The answer that depends on the condition of the fan clutch. If the fan is running all the time it uses a good chunk, up to 10. If it decouples like it should, its more like half of that.
