Diamond washers????
Read through the pages I posted... The harmonic balancer is not keyed its press fit. There are 2 diamond incrusted (seriously) washers behind the balancer that hold the balancer and crank gear to the crankshaft. The whole thing is just held together with friction which is why the engine will essentially explode if you try to remove the balancer bolt before locking the camshafts and setting the crank properly. If you remove the bolt the crank gear will loosen and slam the cams to neutral and send the valves through the pistons....

Yes! I just read, I just meant as in how to find them online or if there was a more technical name to use to hunt them down. :)

Try ford parts giant, search for the crank pulley and they should come up.

they are thin and fragile.
appear to be part of Dorman 926885 harmonic balancer bolt kit.

I think there is 3 of them in total, I'd replace them all while you have it apart.
I think mine is the laser etched, I found no washers.

However I may have hit a snag.

I chipped one of the cam lips for alignment.

Ive got a pic below. Do I have to replace the cam? Can I salvage this?

if the other slot is still good it can be used to align the cam, but certainly DON'T HOLD THE CAMS BY THOSE SLOTS.

hard to say without a good examination for other cracks. the end of the cam has no tension or force on it.

in general most cams are made out of brittle metal, if you drop one on concrete they break/shatter.


edit:
there is a hex near the front to hold it with force, it's about 23mm so an adjustable wrench will work.

by the way, should you get ambitious and remove the cam,,,, those follower buckets come in varying thickness' and are what adjusts the valve clearance.
don't take them out and swap them around.
there is also a diamond impregnated washer behind the cam gear.

replacing the cam means checking all the valve clearances, and buying new follower buckets as needed.
they come in different sizes, you replace with a different size to adjust the gap.
