I have a 2001 ranger 3.0L v6. I recently bought it with the check engine light on. I have also been getting shitty gas mileage, my friend with the same engine and a heavier foot gets way better mpg. we did a tune up and ran air thru the fuel lines and came to discover what we think is a missing charcoal filter.

You guys got any ideas? :icon_confused:

i will put pics up later.

Maybe the carbon canister? If that is missing it could account for terrible mileage. What are your codes?

That'll happen if someone takes the carbon canister off.

You guys didn't find an open or crimped off vent line did you?

I ran a code on it when i first got it, and it said it was the gas cap, but i dont really believe that. I am getting a new gas cap tomorrow so i will see if that actually fixes it. I really think im missing something though but, i dont know what it is. thats why i need the ranger experts advice.
