Ay guys,
My dad just recently bought a 04 ranger 4.0l from my grandfather. My grandfather didnt drive it much in the 6 years he owned it. We moved them back home last year and they had the truck parked under a tree. Of course, a squirrel came down and made himself at home nesting and feeding on spark plugs wires. I replaced the plug wires and noticed he had chewed another few wires and the pass side of intake. My brother started driving the truck and no lights came on in the four months he drove it so I didnt worry about replacing the other wires i had found chewed. While he was driving the truck the tensioner pulley broke. We replaced that and the belt, it started squealing. My grandparents took it back at that time. It sat for a few months then my dad purchased it from them.
Now we get into the current problems. My dad starts driving it on the regular. Belts squealing and pisses my mom off. Shes embarrassed to be in truck. Dad gets out noticed the new tensioner pulley had broke on the rear rib on pulley, just a tiny piece. He replaces that again and notices belt seems to be a little too big (one recommended from parts store) so he gets one an inch smaller. Gets it on no problem. Drives it for a few days squeal is gone. But the truck starts dying.
Thinking it's because the belt is to small, we replace it with the recommended one. Squeal is back and truck is still dying, some times at an idle, sometimes while driving, but especially in reverse. Notice the battery light is flashing. So I pull alternator have it tested. Idiot at parts store test the alternator off an explorers alternator setting 135a. Ranger alt is 95a. So it tests bad but it also only tested at 75a. So either way it's bad in both settings. Replaced alt. Truck runs fine for a day or so. Then starts dying when moms driving it. Shes mad. I tow it back to her house. Now it wont start at all. Checked fuel pressure thinking maybe fuel pump. Good. Checked fuel pump voltage. Good. Let truck sit for a day starts up squeals for a second drives and once it gets warm it dies. At a loss right now of whats goin in on. The wires that are chewed on intake, still haven't been replaced. We were told that its the knock sensor wires. We have another knock sensor and pigtails on order. Still dont make sense on why its dying.
HELP LOL I'm at a loss. Pics are of the wires chewed.
