My main purpose here is to find (and hopefully eventually share) repair/maintenance info for my 2000 Ford Ranger, purchased in 2021 from the original owner with unknown mileage. It is a 2WD manual 2.5L, all stock/unmodified as far as I can tell, aside from an aftermarket radio. It's my daily driver, not a recreational vehicle, but in the future I intend to modify it in minor ways to make it more useful. Right now I just need a reliable daily driver, so I am more concerned about mechanical issues than conveniences and cosmetics.
The truck was wrecked in 2003 by the original owner, an impact with a telephone pole. It messed up the front end a little and tweaked the cab, but the frame is still straight. It has been tinkered with at least a little in the past. There are various minor issues and a few potentially major issues to work through.
I've had a couple of vehicles in the past that just kept developing problems as old components failed one after the other. I eventually sold them after spending too much money for hard-to-find parts, but I am hoping that with this Ranger parts won't be an issue because it's so common. To me, even if I wind up spending $4000 on parts before it's good to go that feels like a better bet than gambling on a new used vehicle...but we'll see. It will always be cheaper than something brand new, and anyway I don't want 500 extra sensors and cabin frills to worry about.
