My name is Mike and I appreciate your site! I recently bought a 1990 Ford Ranger XLT with a 2.9l and 5 speed transmission. I don't like the truck...I love it!

You'll fit in well with the 2.9 Mafia. Welcome.

My credo
Give 'yer balls a tug. Fight me.

That leads to the rabbit hole. The 2.9 is a cool little critter that swings above its weight class due to light weight, efficient design, and a flat torque curve.

A few tweaks here and there with them and they are really impressive for their era.

....just.... literally never overheat it.

....like seriously. never overheat it.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Welcome to the site. Just in case you've never heard this advice...

Never, ever overheat your 2.9l
