Heaterbox fumes

So it looks like my heater box is blowing engine fumes into the cab. It is not the heater core btw. Anyone ever had this problem? Is the box cracked maybe?

Possible the box in the engine bay is cracked, but long shot

Check the rubber elbow tube from box to the blower motor housing, it pulls in air from inside the box to cool the brushes in the motor, if its off or broken then.....................it can suck in engine bay air

Also check the hood gasket at the rear of hood, the fresh air intake is on passenger side under the cowl just above blower area
If gasket is bad then engine air can come out and be sucked into fresh air intake

Other thing is..................why does your engine bay air smell................lol
You should fix exhaust leaks and valve cover leaks so no smells in the first place

I just hung one of those pine tree air fresheners from my alternator bracket. Gaskets are expensive!

Full disclosure...valve cover do leak a bit lmao. I'll chack what you guys suggested and get back to you. And I'll buy an air freshener

A coworker walked into my garage and he said "this smells like a garage should smell" and I asked him what he meant by that and he said "oh, you know old cars and spilled motor oil". LOL

Agree, when I first got mine the exhaust system was roached. PO cut open the Cat and emptied it. Raw fuel smell came in the cab when the wind blew from certain directions. A leak at the Y-pipe to downpipe didn't help either. I didn't like paying an exhaust shop to fix it, but it was worth it. I know somebody will ask... the wife doesn't like me using a torch

That rubber hose is the culprit. It falls off its so loose. I wonder if I could plug those holes and have the blower motor survive? Its a weird hose, bet its a PITA to find replacement. I'll poke around for a new one, but I doubt I'll find one.

Why not stick a couple of small clamps on it?

Pretty much all makers use similar for blowers, next time you are at a wrecking yard have a look, keep the old one with you

nylon so you can maybe thread them in to the existing holes, there is no pressure, its just a snug fit for vibration

Thanks again! The hose itseld holds air when I plug it and blow into it. I'll clamp it down for now and find a solution like you mentioned
