Hey guys, I have a 1990 ranger 2.3 5 speed. I switch my hvac slider to the cold side to let the truck heat up faster, then once it was warm I tried to move it back to the hot side. It wouldn't go past the middle, so in my infinity wisdom I forced it, and something popped. Now the slider has no Resistance, and the heat is stuck on. It's winter so that's fine for now, but how does the system work. Is it cables driven or vacuum operated, and how do I fix this? Any help is appreciated.

It is cable operated up to 1994, electric 1995 and up
Fold down glove box and you will see the cable on the left at the top of the "air box"

Inside the air box is the Blend Door, it routes air from the fan around heater core(COLD) or thru heater core(HOT) or anywhere in between
The slider moves the blend door via a lever on the top of air box
Could be the slider arm broke or the lever?????

Alright I pulled the glove box off and everything looked fine there. So I pulled the Hvac control unit off and found the mount for the cold-hot slider cable snapped off. So I did the right thing and removed the ash box and pulled the cable end, and broken clip arm out of the hole. For now I can just push it in for cold and pull it out for heat. Thanks for the response RonD I really didn't know when they made the switch to electric.

same thing happened to me, had to go the the junkyard and get a new cable. Went ahead and got a new hvac panel since the old one had the compressor on all the time.
