2002, XLT, 3.0L. QUES : Do I need the small diameter hose, which comes off the side of the black plastic "T", that is on the larger hose that goes from housing to heater core...? I assume it's a bypass...? I only drive the truck in summer.
Thanx for any info.

No you don't need it(them), there are a pair of these hoses, one on each heater hose, they go to the upper intake throttle body, it acts as a heater for the air coming into the intake so it doesn't freeze in the winter.
Nothing to do with cab heat

You have to disconnect and plug BOTH smaller hoses, or better yet replace both heater hose so no more "T's"
Heater hose is cheap by the foot

Thanx much RonD. The "T" on the upper hose is cracked, and leaking. When I found out that the hoses were only sold in pairs, at about $110/$115......yikes....for heater hose...?
Anyway, thanx again....I didn't figure those smaller hoses were REAL important.
Charlie.
