Question? With the spark plug in place when running the engine does the radiator overflow? If you do have coolant in the cylinder you also have compression inside the radiator which WILL cause the coolant to puke out and the engine will overheat.
Without these symptoms put another known good sparkplug in there and see if it fires.
A great number of heads are removed without the need for removal.

Really, really, really sounds electrical from here! Doesn't one bit sound like head problems.

What is the mileage on your Ranger when this happened? That is a felpro gasket that failed (I had one fail exactly the same way). That means that head has already been off at least once.

I agree.I would find out why there has been that many gasket failures otherwise your most likely going to have another one.

Doesn't Ford use FelPro from the factory on the 4.0 V6? My Mustang had FelPro from the factory. It sounds like it's too late, but I have a suggestion; I use the Permatex Copper Head Gasket spray. It helps heat transfer and fills in any minor imperfections.
