I was having to push really hard on the clutch to get it to start for a while, now I literally have to turn key and kick hard. I feel like I'm going to break something else kicking it like that.

I replaced the clutch safety switch the other day, but that didn't help. I did not attempt to change the rod though.

The clutch otherwise seems to work fine. Switches gears as usual and isn't loose at all.

What could the issue be?

The clutch pedal switch works by being squeezed between pedal arm and master, so not really a pushrod issue

Master(switch)<<<<<pressure

The fact you have to cause a "Jolt" under the dash could be a loose wire and not the switch at all
Its just a pressure switch so the "speed" of the compression of the switch wouldn't matter

The ignition switch is under the steering column, when key is turned to START it sends out 12volts to FUSE 24 in cab fuse box
You can pull out this fuse then use a test light or volt meter at fuse 24 to test if that is happening reliably

Fuse 24 passes the 12volts to the Clutch switch, if its closed(compressed) then the 12volts goes thru it to Starter Relay in engine bay

Ignition switch-----------fuse 24---------clutch switch-----------------------------------------starter relay

It's possible the clutch pedal is shifting positions because of worn out bushing at the top of the pedal arm
If you have a helper you can open the bleeder and push pedal down while watching if it compresses the switch enough to close it
Close bleeder before releasing pedal
If it's not pressing on switch enough to close it then you could install a soft spacer so pedal hits the switch sooner to close it
