Has anyone dropped a Ford 300 into a first gen (1983-1989) Ranger?

Perhaps a tape measure would help with the decision. I loved my 300 in my 70 f250 but that’s a loooong block for a BII or Ranger. OEM front end would put the bell housing between the seats. 🤣. Split the dash and tub the hump.
If you do it we would love some pictures. It would be epic.
whats the length of the 300? I cant find that info anywhere.

I can’t tell you in inches but a 5.0 valve cover will make contact with the heater box. Now add two more cylinders to that length.
Don’t be discouraged by my joking around. If you set your mind to it give it your best effort. Nothing is impossible. I’ve seen big blocks squeezed in there. Highly modified and I wouldn't wanna change the plugs but hey, it’s been done and was a beast. Give er hell fren. 😁

Get yourself a good engine and get to mocking it up. What’s the Puddin’s fab shop dude say. Sitting on your butt won’t finish your project. I’ve tore 1 of my 85 BII down to bare frame and it’s still not back together. Closer than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow.

I havent gotten the 4.9 yet. My friend is hopefully getting one thats got a blow headgasket and i plan on refreshing it. It comes with a manual trans as well. idk if its a granny low trans.

Once ive gotten the motor ill start tearing the ranger down and stripping it. Getting it ready. I might tow it to my friends house so we can fix the floor and general rust.

I haven’t even started any body work. It’s in decent shape Hell I started out just putting a body lift on it and it kinda got outta hand. I think I’m 4 years into now. But I have two others that I tinker with as well. Hobby’s and daily drivers. Keeps me outta the bars chasing bow legged women.

hahaha, Im hoping to be saving up enough money to be able to buy everything I need for my conversion soon. The old worn out 2.8 is a giant pile. I wanna 302 or a 300 really bad. I sadly havent bought anything for either swaps.

Hold onto that 2.8. Parts are hard to find and you’ll still find people wanting them. Help offset your build expenses.
I found an 88 ranger with a 5.0 already in it. Wrecked and rusted but complete. Runs but not drivable.
I want it so bad I could spit but money is tight right now. He’s had it for sale for a good while. Hoping I can work a trade.

Yeah, I wont junk it. I already bought a kit to refresh it. Gaskets, oil pump, and so on. Ill probably rebuild it and either hold onto it or get myself another ranger and drop it into unless someone here would wanna buy it and all of the BRAND NEW parts I bought for it. its all still in their boxes.

300 DIMENSIONS (1971 year):

FRT-FACE-OF-BLOCK to REAR-FACE-OF-BLOCK: 725 mm / 28.56"

OAL (FAN-to-CRANK-FLANGE): 931 mm / 36.65"

HEIGHT CL CRANK-to-TOP-OF-BREATHER-CAP: 486 mm / 19.12"

HT OIL-PAN-to-TOP-OF BREATHER-CAP: 690 mm / 27.17"

For reference OAL (FAN-to-CRANK-FLANGE) of 302 is just under 685mm / 27".

So, 300 is almost 10" longer and its about 30lbs heavier.

My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
IIRC there is a guy here who either did it, or had pics of one. I remember the radiator support being hacked up and the motor and radiator sat really far forward. It was a red First or 2nd gen,, but I couldnt find anything in the "search tool"
I did find this ...
