Anyone else have problems with the newer auto transmissions in the newer rangers. My dad has a 2002 extended cab 4x4 4.0 auto trans ranger. He just bought it and got rid of his 93. Took it out to go hunting today. Drove up in the pasture, some hills about a 50-60 degree incline. Trans just slips. Had it in 4x4 and Drive with over drive out starting out. Tried 2nd still slipped had to drop it down in 1rst to get it to finish out the hill. His 93 would have done that in drive without kicking it out of the overdrive gear selector. His 93 had over 300,000 miles on the 02 has just over 100,000. Have yet to read the codes as i didnt have my code reader with me today.
Anyone have any ideas where to look. Drives fine on the highway. Downshifts when you put your foot into it and shifts back out smoothly.
