Grill Chrome Removal

I want to paint my chrome grill black but a friend of mine said to just use lacquer thinner and wipe it right off. He said it works a lot better than painting. Has anyone tried this? My fear is that the lacquer thinner would eat into the plastic as well as the chrome!

I would do a test on a spot where it's hidden when installed first just to make sure. Me personally, I would sand and paint it.

I agree! Using lacquer thinner on plastic makes me nervous!

Sand it. Prime it. Paint it.
No need to go crazy on it. It'll look good.
I've been doing mine (the whole truck) a little at a time over the past summer.
