Here it is guys. 87' 4x4, extended cab, 2.9, and pretty much all stock. It needs U-joints really bad (front and back), a good tune up, and some basic cosmetic fixes. All and all, it's a pretty solid truck. I feel like a kid at Christmas right now:yahoo: I traded the 99 Taurus for it straight across. The cool part is, I got the Taurus for free, and only had $144. invested in parts. So basically I got the ranger for 144 bucks. Cant beat that!

My plans:

6" lift, cut the fenders, swap out the 7.5+D28 for the 8.8 and D35, switch over to manual hubs, and manual transfer case, make custom bumpers with winch mounts front and rear, snorkel, on-bored air compressor, and much much more.

It'll take time, and probably start off slow, due to funds and it being the holidays and such. With this years tax return, I'll buy the lift, and hopefully the axles and just do that all at once, while I'm under there.

I'll post up more pics very soon.

Tell me what you guys think. Any suggestions for the build?

Thanks!

-Denny

Thanks guys. I'm pretty pumped, and can't wait to get started. Tune up, u-joints, and fluid flush begin tonight, as well as a good thorough cleaning.

Dang, wish I could get a 4x4 Ranger for almost nothing down. I really envy you and your new Ranger. :wub:

That is the best lift that you can probably get, as it's the Class II with extended radius arms and leaf springs. 6" springs, bumpstops, pitman arm, etc.

Only thing you really need is shocks. Skyjacker is a good, reliable brand with decent customer service. You may be able to shop around and find a slightly better price, but $400 isn't bad.

Setup (installation, ease, function) = 8 / 10
Durability = 9 / 10
Performance = 8 / 10
Price = 7.5 / 10

For the record, I would rate Trailmaster and and Rough Country considerable lower.

Thanks Pete, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. This might be kind of a dumb question, but how much should extend my drive shafts?

I agree, the silver and black is a pretty sweet combo. I've always been a sucker for two tone. :icon_thumby:

Yeah I thought it was a pretty sweet deal too. I like how it comes with new leaf springs, and not blocks. It's nice to have a first Gen now, lifts are cheap. My last Ranger was an '03, and lift kits for it were... well, not on the cheap side. Ha ha

nice looking gen one ranger
Thanks man. It's nice to be back in a first gen, for sure. I missed the 'ol 2.9, and the five speed. I haven't had a first gen since I was 18, almost 9 years now. It definitely needs some help, but I couldn't be more satisfied. After all, it is a project truck:icon_bounceblue:
