Think I figured that I do not need to use the washer, think it may have been from the automatic the motor came from. Thoughts?

How thick is this thing? If it's just a little thing then it goes under the flywheel. If it is big, about 3/4" thick, then yes, it was for an automatic.

Pictures would help.

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Does it have marks from the bolt heads? That would be a dead giveaway.

It's thin, .010 but it takes up most of what appears to be alignment for the flywheel so I wasn't sure, thanks for your time all.

No bolt head imprint and kinda oily so must go on the crank before the flywheel, just takes up more than half of what appears to be alignment portion of the crank for flywheel to go on, thanks.

Shims like that are used to take up space when the flywheel is surfaced. When the flywheel is surfaced there is material removed. So now the clutch surface is farther away. Putting a shim on the crank side of the flywheel brings it back to where the distance from clutch to flywheel is back in spec.

Yup, looks like a machining shim.

I don't like them personally because it also changes where the ring gear falls on the starter gear.
