Food, trophy, pride, etc.

My dad has passed up over 15 bears since he shot his big adarondak bear. That one he was forced to kill even though he probably would have anyway. It was a big 400 or so pound male and came charging at him from the brush, he put two rounds from his 7mm magnum into it before it slowed down and one to take it down, just a few feet from him. Didn't miss at all.

The female, he was probably just sick of passing up bears and if he didn't take her down one of his buddies would have.

My little male was just.. there while I was hunting. I picked a good spot to sit hoping to see a buck (I didn't all season, and I don't shoot doe) and ended up with a bear in my sights. Took him down without a second thought. Waited for my father, even though it was a good shot and kill. I couldn't see it to confirm it was down, and I didn't want to get mauled, so I waited for backup just in case. He was out walking a bit away from where I was. We walked over to it just passed the brush and gutted it, tagged it, and I waited for him to get my brother and his buddy Rick so we could haul it out of the woods. Sucker was heavy, and it was all uphill.

Yeah, when I get around to it I'll scan the article. There was a few errors from the author, but not too bad. I think it was something with the location.

I want a duck. I see you noticed my post in the you laugh you lose thread as well. I found that picture researching how to train coyote hounds, I'm thinking about getting a black and tan hound for it. Strange, that a coyote site had a fox on it though. :D

Anyway, here's that article. Not sure if photobucket will mess with it though sizewise.

Mogan Hill Road is supposed to be Mormon Hollow road. I think that's the only mistake.

Plus, he said bagged too much. Haha.

Man that seems so weird to me that thats in the paper! lol I have nothing against hunting but I don't think I've seen anything like that in a Canadian newspaper.

During hunting season the newspapers around here reserve two or more pages for hunters.

Were one of those hunting communities.

Congrats man!

I've never been hunting, but I have had bear jerky I think it was, and it was awsome!!

I love dear/elk jerky and pepperoni too. Good stuff!

Just a random fact about odd meat, my mom had a "weight Watchers" book a while ago (lists all the "points" for different foods) and one of the things in there was squirell. I can see eating dear and bear and such, but there just can't be that much meat on a squerill!
tree rat is a mighty fine meal when served with dumplings. every opending day my dad and i would go after school and harvest our limit, mom cooked em up for the whole family. kids fightin like cats and dogs for the last bisqet. DAMN i miss the south.
