The early EECIV can be very difficult to troubleshoot. This is a well versed mechanic in this video. Helps to watch him get frustrated like we all do working with this system.

An alternative title could have been...

"Yet another 2.9 nearly makes an otherwise decent truck nearly scrap metal"

Old EFI system's diagnostic capabilities were a joke in general.

I made sure Petroleumjunkie412 got the link. Hopefully, he won't have too many flashbacks...

Besides the heads cracking, I have had good experiences with the basic 2.9 engine itself. Never used a drop of oil and had loads of get up and go. You could tell he was a little surprised during his road test how good it ran. Like on other engines, a little plastic sensor or something somewhere cripples an otherwise good engine.

Don't worry. I still have some carb conversion ideas rolling around in my head.

Ive had 4, Id buy another in a heartbeat lol. My first vehicle was an 89, 4x4, 5sp and i drove it like a 16 year old boy does lol. Burnt out 2 clutches and that engine was solid when i sold it. Candy caned the driveshaft in my B2 popping wheelies in 4 low with the hubs unlocked. I never had any engine problems with my 2.9s, just stupid teenager problems.
