Very well... had to ask... not long ago someone did that and had the entire works in a bind.

@Ranger850 hit a nail on the head. It's short... it's light... it's kinda what they do. There is a limit though... the truck shouldn't change lanes at highway speed. PJ... was it really the tires... or were you pinching the reindeer dust again?

Tires and tire pressure are key to ride quality... experiment with some lower pressure as others have stated.

As for el cheapo shocks... some make better paper weights then shocks. I've been a KYB fan for years... if you decide to upgrade... have a look at some of their offerings.

I frequently swapped wheels between my 2 Rangers to "optimize" wear and traction situations.

I've heard that the elve's magic dust is head and shoulders above the rest,,,,,,quite an accomplishment considering how short they are.

Cheap shocks and over-inflated tires will lead to a bad ride. I went from a set of Napa cheapos to a set of Monroe OESpectrums and it greatly improved my ride.

However the best advice I can give for a rough ride when hitting potholes is "you aren't supposed to hit the pot holes".

So i have a 2007 ranger xlt crew cab and i find the ride to be terrible too - glad to see i'm not the only one :D
The rear shocks are supposedly new, changed by the dealer who sold it to me (and they almost look like new). The front ones were toast and I decided to replace with OEM hoping this would be best, there was a slight improvement but still terrible overall haha.
The worst part to me i think is the sway, maybe the lack of sway bar at the back makes it worse, i dont know. Also wondering if rotten bushings all around would make things worse.

Previous car was a range rover so i'm slowly convincing myself that it is what it is, a small truck doesnt have the same ride quality than a luxury suv... I need to get my expectations right.

Come to Louisiana LOL. I will try a better quality shock also and I dropped pressure from 32 to 30 like the tag in the door said.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

The pot hole is a permanent fixture in PA roads and the traffic barrel is the State Flower. I’m waiting for them to change the state flag to all orange or to a picture of the stop/slow sign construction traffic people use. The state song is the noise of a jack hammer and diesel air compressor.

You aint got NUFFIN' on potholes in the city I used to live in, here in Saskatchewan. A while back they were talking about putting signs on the highway that read "If you don't lose yoru car in a pot hole, thank the city. They lost the bus!

That's why I love FLorida. We have a toll road called the Florida Turnpike, and it helps fund road repair across the whole state, so pot holes are only on the least traveled roads in the city, like allies and small backroads. County roads can get rough, but potholes are basically non-existent where I live. (also the Capital of the State, so pot holes would not be a good look for the city or state)

potholes? I live in rural Ohio so my best advice about potholes goes like this.... Most people drive on the right side of the road whereas Ohioans drive on what's left of the road. I though Ohio was known as "orange barrel hell" lol. You can't not drive past construction on ANY highway lol.

I recently replaced all four excessively worn shocks. It made a noticeable improvement. I still have some harshness, but I think most of it is cause by my tires, which are on the last 10,000 miles or so of life. Another possibility is suspension wear. Everything appears to be tight, but I read something about harshness and worn springs. I've thought about replacing the springs, but they aren't listed in any catalogs for 2007. Moog does have springs for the 2001 through 2003, but I'm not sure if there was any changes over the course of production of the last generation and I haven't sent an email to Moog to ask them if there is a difference, or if the catalog hasn't been updated.

The leaf springs are pretty readily available in a lot of places unless you are looking for extra heavy duty springs.

If you have coils in the front, I don’t know what options or availability is there for them.

As far as old, worn out springs causing a harsh ride, I’ve not experienced that. Ride tends to soften and suspension sag gets more pronounced.

Spray your leaf springs down with WD-40 from time to time. I know there are plastic shims/spacers in the leafs but it does help to quiet and smooth the ride a bit.
