Good buy or should I pass?

Hello All,
I'm looking at a used Ranger up for sale by the owner. It is a 2003 XLT Edge with auto tranny and 3.0 V6. It has 187,000KM and the owner is asking $5500 for it. Cosmetically it looks in good shape and I am going to look it over tonight for rust. Any particular gotchas I should check for? My biggest worry off the bat is that the transmission may be about to go. I know it will depend heavily on fluid changes and how it was driven. Any input would be appreciated.

that doesn't sound terrible. Lately I've seen a 1996 Ranger XLT Ex. Cab w/ 150,000+ MILES marked $4500 and a 1999 Ranger 3.0 FFV stepside with 122,000Miles marked $7000 at two different dealers here in my neck of the woods. I'm not sure what mileage 187,000 km equals or where you're located, but doesn't sound terrible. Guess it depends on other things like whether its 4x4, what axle it might have in back, extended cab, 2 door or 4 door extended, etc.
