The hydrogen generating systems always made for fun conversations when so much pseudo science was thrown around

And what was the chemical people were sometimes adding to their gas tanks? (Edit - acetone and moth balls were the big ones. Also toluene)

Nitro methane for power. Hot rodders swore that adding mothballs also produced power.

Or someone had a buddy that had a car/pickup that got like 50/60mpg until the automaker found out one of their prototype carburators sneaked out and the automaker "fixed" it...

Don't forget about decals and stickers. More stickers = more power! As for the CAI topic... I think adding a true CAI is beneficial DEPENDING on the vehicle. On a ranger that makes around 150hp it's not gonna do much since there isn't much air flow coming in where the CAI is at but I had an 04 dodge stratus (Mitsubishi chassis, not Chrysler) and I put a K&N CAI on that and it made a HUGE difference because when you removed the stock box on the stratus (Mitsubishi eclipse) it had a 12"x12" opening where you could literally see the ground so it let in a TON of cold air. You could easily feel the power difference before and after the CAI on that car. When I put a CAI on my truck I couldn't tell any difference. Didn't feel like I gained or lost any power so it was just an aesthetic mod at that point.

I honestly love reading the CAI debates.

Along with every oil change, adding a can of STP was mandatory.
It guaranteed more hp, better fuel economy, and quieted your engine.
If you had a leak in valve cover, oil pan, ect, you left a quart or 2 of oil out and replaced it with STP.

But, the ONLY guaranteed way to add hp was to add chrome. Engine, body, interior, didn't matter, just add chrome. Ask any old timer hot rodder and he will totally agree,
Chrome=HP.

And then there was the Slick50 treatment to protect engines from cold starts.

Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
You could always put a "Rear mount Turbo Kit" on it. The turbo air cools off as it goes the length of the car to get back to the engine.

I still like that idea about filling the filter box with ice.

Better yet...

Every night, take your air filter in the house. Soak it in water for 5 minutes, then put it in the freezer. Next morning, reinstall it in the filter box. Voila! Cold air!

It might be time for a new product on the market to give us some variety. Been a while since the Tornado vortex generator was popular. Something along those lines could keep things lively for a while.

Basically a scaled up small engine fuel pump that runs on exhaust rather than crankcase pressure that pumps air instead of liquid fuel?

More or less, yeah. But good luck making that survive at high RPM with exhaust gas next to it the whole time. And enough flow to create significant positive pressure with the bike screaming along seems like a pipe dream. That was a fun rabbit trail to go down. Thanks @PetroleumJunkie412 !
