My ram is really giving my wallet a beating lately with gas prices going up. So I found a 96 explorer sport with a 5 speed. 200k miles. But well maintained and clutch done. Asking 500 bucks. Anything I need to check out closely besides the normal stuff? I'm more familiar with the sohc engines. And the newer explorers. Haven't dinked with an ohv.

Check coolant to confirm head gaskets are intact. Otherwise they are pretty solid.

sounds reasonable... my '91 used to get 20mpg and was a 4 door with 5 speed, the OHV has a low rev limit but is a torquy engine for sure...

How did it work out? I'm considering a 96 Explorer w/4.0 and automatic w/4wd. Is the 96 Explorer 4.0 a match for my 93 Ranger?

actually bought. Sold. Then bought back. Then sold the truck again. It was a great little truck. Had good power. And I loved the 5 speed.
I personally feel the sohc was a much snappier engine. But the ohv has good torque.
