Looking through some old papers and found an 06-07 Emissions report on my old 87 Ranger
How can I run the VIN to see what befell it? I always had a suspision the kid that bought it drove it straight to the scales
Although it did have a new engine, I really wish I had kept it and rode back there on a bus to get it here

Does this exhaust need to come off? Can I remove the Emmision stuff and leave the exhaust pipe?

I wiggled a 5L out of an explorer engine compartment without touching the heater box with the exhaust manifolds installed including EGR tube, you should as heck be able to get a 60 degree V6 out of the same engine compartment...

Yup, I’ve never pulled the heater box. I did find that headers don’t want to fit past the heater box and steering shaft even with the core support out. But factory exhaust fits past with a little wiggling

The Spring is springing and I pulled the cover off the Explorer motor today. The varmits had begun to tear into the Aluminum tape I had on it. I found some wider and heavier but it shouldn't need to be there long as the last one did.
I squirted some oil into the cylinders and turned it over, easy as pie. After replacing the plugs I turned it a bit farther and the compression seems to be excellent.
Getting a hankering to hear this thing run. To see this thing run. To FEEL this thing run! ;)

Just read thru your thread. I don't know the 4.0 so not really much help in that area. Previously, you asked about pulling motor and transmission together. In most cases for myself personally, if it is a 2 wheel drive, I pull motor and transmission together. 4 wheel drive you cannot pull transmission because of the transfer case. Especially on a manual transmission, sometimes getting the transmission shaft stabbed to the flywheel can be difficult at times when leaving the transmission in the truck and putting the motor in thru the top of engine bay.

I have pulled many a motor from tree branches and a come along. Usually lift the motor and had to move the truck forward or backward as we came up with the motor. Your frame would make that so much easier. Great job on your build.
