aye....sort of. i have a grey title. rebuilt/composite. if i rebuild my rig from its current decrepid state back to safe like it was when you first seen it way back when....which you would think is unsafe in regards to pa standards....... it will transfer to pa these days.....THESE DAYS> so fair enough
. back to the point of this thread.
sad day. the Power boost finally went back.
the good.
i absolutely adored that rig. hands down the best machine i have ever put my wife in. best towing rig ever so far.....not even close. totally embarrasses the f250 godzilla with the exact same load.....for per move work. just amazing.
the best part was she was unwilling to let go of the power
.... she absolutely did not want anything slower.....
the bad.
so for sure there was a period of nearly 5 months total we were without the vehicle over 3 years due to axle failures.
..these were not catastrophic failures that would leave you stranded but regardless it had to go in....you can look it up to get a full understanding...but getting parts to fix it was not happening in the short term.
which is the new normal....for anything these days. the kewl thing from that is my wife got to drive a crapload of factory program vehicles and really knows what is available. (hence she did not want a lesser powertrain)
our truck was the first recorded axle failure.
to get these to super tow they have a hybrid modern system of full float capacity for obvious reasons.
we did have two failures. so for sure these modern tow limits and how they got to it far surpass what we should be expected in a half ton....but 570 pounds of torque has consequences.
so this is not an issue for me its just a development thing. it will be developed out i am sure.
and really that should be it....
i would hope that would be it....but there is a worse problem...
i very seriously am starting to get to the point of hate for FMC. Like i went Toyota Shopping level of hate...
these people running the company are the most ignorant crap bags i have ever seen. THEY DO NOT LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMERS.... they claim to, but that is patently untrue. the deal they made with the devil (federal government) is causing most of these issues....and i hope it really hurts them worse before it is over....and by some magical miracle they actually learn from it.
this particular hybrid platform is unbelievable in capacity. definitely is demonstrably better then anything else out there so far.
it should have double the battery capacity as an option to give up for payload... it can run my house on a tank of gas for a week....in january keeping all of my meat freezers running and the heater keeping my wife and family cozy...you can barely hear it when it runs to charge itself up...if you are outside next to it.....indoors you will never know what its doing..
but this year they took away the options that my wife prefers for the level of machine we have....not sure why...well. i know why...we all know..MONEY.
you have to get all the chromed out gaudy garbage she dislikes to equivocate what we had in the lariat range that was monochrome or spend 85 k to have a non chromed out whatever....or get a stripper truck. no middle ground.
when they pulled the scheduled pro-power last year from the expedition which is what i had planned on getting next i was stunned. whomever came up with that idea needs to be tossed from the company. who the hell doesnt want a 19 avg city mpg 13 second 25 mpg hiway at 75 mph expedition?
at the end of the day....this 6600 pound powerboost truck was the cheapest to operate family vehicle we have ever owned. but we were looking at 6 months and 90 grand to get a replacement. that is unacceptable. disappointed is far too kind a description for me.
i am sincerely hoping there are supply issues or something....or its just too hard to keep reliability up that is the reason ford is not fully platforming this awesome capability for everything it makes.....
not just forcing the all electric bs. and for the record I love the electric machines...they haul arse for sure. but are a joke for the purported reasons to make them...ie cleaner ect.
so. there is only one thing faster then the powerboost with 4 doors. and hopefully her replacement machine is as good as this powerboost was. i will miss the pro power onboard for sure.....now i have to buy another natural gas generator for the house. dang it.
as for the newer rangers. i like them even more now over this same period of time.. they have some issues....and i do not get to drive them regularly anymore which just makes me want one now...the pricing is getting close for the 19-21s
my godzilla.
well...that fat bastard... it ate an engine. and all in has over 6 months of shop time for various issues.
but i still like it. great all around. and it is better then the 1/2 ton for my specific work application....which unfortunately i may be forced to make that choice again sooner then later....so we will see. for sure a ranger will not work so that is out.
all in all it is a very odd machine. it can pull off 12-16 mpg at 10500 plus cruising weight in 45-55 mph Appalachia hill and dale driving. so that is really impressive.
but not my constant normal unfortunately......
any steady state freeway is 12ish mpg......
towing my normal 10-14 k runs 8.5 down to 4 mpg.....which is same as the outgoing powerboost....
but to eat an engine --- three sets of plug wires--- 22 headlight bulbs ---a bunch of evap parts ect in 100 k and 6 months shop time....
i guess that is the new normal too.
looking across our work fleet....it is better then average. that is an aggregate of nissan ford dodge and gm 1/2 ton to 650 class.
if you made it through that ridiculous babble....your at least as crazy as i am.....we are in strange times. enjoy it while you can.
