I bought this truck new in 2002. It has the 3.0 in it. I never hardly turned a bolt on her in 19 years. But this past year has been tough. I got my oil leak fixed last year at the dealership new oil pan gasket and rear main seal. It leaked again after about 1 week took it back in they had to put some kind of sealant on the corners of the oil pan where it drops down and goes around the main seal. Well today notice it leaking again. If this is the case it will be the 3rd time! In 8 months!!

dang. maybe the pan is bent at those corners? i think if they would have cleaned those corners well than the sealant would have worked though.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
You're certainly having a frustrating time with that. But if that's the worst thing to have happened on your 20 yr old truck, you're doing well. Congratulations!

Yeah I know its been a great truck for 20 yrs. I would not take anything for it but I'm so frustrated I could scream. Yeah the second time they when in they said they cleaned it real good and put a second gasket on it and sealant on the corners. This dealer ship has done work for me on this truck since and they have been top notch for a dealer. I mean taking care of small stuff that may be a problem in the future at no cost. I'm just bummed.

Sounds like it's been a good truck to you. Assuming it is still a gasket leak or main seal, a competent shop should be able to fix it no problem, I would hope. If they refuse to try and fix it which I'm guessing they will, maybe find a better shop. I know people get attached to shops / places, but don't feel bad looking for somewhere better. Lots of shops / dealers have employees come and go, and some aren't as skilled as others and may not do repairs as well, even at a dealership. Maybe next time around get a new pan installed as well, so they have to remove the old one entirely and clean everything up well.

If it is still just a gasket leak, shouldn't take much to get it back on the road. If the truck is in good shape otherwise, should be worth it?

I understand though, I'd be really bummed too after paying a shop to fix it and it's leaking again so soon.

Well they told me after the second time that its under warranty for two years. So hopefully if I have to take it back they want try to back out on it.They removed it entirely last time because the main reason it was there was to replace timing cover gasket. They told me ford required them to remove oil pan for the repair of the timing cover gasket. So while they did that they put in a new rear main seal. Because either the oil pan was leaking or the pan gasket so they did both. And new timing chain

I had an oil leak that I thought was rear main seal. Ended up it was the camshaft synchronizer on top at the very back of engine. It drips from up top and covers all the area you are talking about. Hope this helps. It was on my 2003 3.0

You have had it for 19 years and no issues other than normal maintenance until now? What's the problem here? That sounds to me like a very good truck and if the dealer had done there job right it would of only been done once. Thats not your rangers fault..... :)
