if its a flammable gas or liquid, an internal combustion engine can run off of it. No joke.

I literally ran a car off of an "OFF!" bug spray can before, by spraying it into the throttle body...i was surprised it worked too, it was a car that sat six years, the fuel pump was shot, it was going to be used for a demo derby car and i saw the can in the car. I sprayed it near my lighter and saw that the bug spray was flammable, so i gave it a try, my friend cranked the engine, and i sprayed it into the intake, and low and behold it fires right up. it went all the way up to the rev limiter no less!!!

it was a toyota corolla though, hah

no, a gas generaor isn't ethanol. it uses a closed
fire pot with limited air intake. it makes a gas
like the old city gas used for lighting 150 years
ago. carbon monoxide and hydrogen and hydrocarbons
from incomplete combustion. i wouldn't try it
with a modern engine.

i bet with modern technology, we could create a process to remove the carbon monoxide from the gas, and pureify it enough to run cleanly in a modern engine. But it might not be cost effective, and if it did really somehow catch on, and everyone used it. Then we would be killing all the trees on the planet, and the running out of oil problem would turn into a running out of trees problem.

carbon monoxide burns as fuel in the engine to make co2.
and co2 is good for the environment- necessary for life.

there was actually a show on the discovery called the colony, it was a basic armagedon simulation with a few survivors that had to use what they had to leave the area. a very interesting show that you can probably find on hulu. but with gas at a nonexistant level on the show they build a wood gasifier to run an early 70's dodge flat bed truck and it ran well at about 50 mph. so is it possible? yes. is it efficent? not even close. will it ever become main stream? never.

YEP! I've been running a 98 2.5 on wood for 3years. I just bought a 2004 4.0 and plan to run it on wood, if the 4.0 won't work I will put an OBD1 5.0 in it. Engines with a distributor ing. work best. I would like to know if there are any aluminum intakes for 04 4.0.

My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Worked on a guys house years back that had a gassified square Dakota he drove from Washington to Florida and a full size chevy pickup that was gassified. Super cool stuff.
