My credo
To send it or not to send it, that is the question.
Im unsure where to put this so any mods that come across this put it where you think is appropriate

Anyways whenever i fill up my truck it will fill up and once the pump clicks it then dumps like half a gallon on the ground from the top of the tank, im aware of the common problem with filler necks but it doesn't seem to be coming from there and the tank doesn't have much rust so where else could it come from? Oh and i mainly use ethanol free fuel so idk if that would affect anything.

If you can for sure rule out the filler neck, it could also be coming out of the sending unit seal or the rollover valve. Either one is pretty likely and common. The rollover valve has a rubber grommet that dries out and cracks. Perhaps you could pull the bed off, fill the tank up and watch where it's leaking from?

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
We can guess all day long and someone is bound to guess right, but the only way to know for sure is to look at it.

It could be rotten where the tank comes up against the frame too.

Mine rotted behind the plasic skid shield at the front, it was packed with dirt and just held the moisture there.

Well i was going to possibly pull the bed this summer and replace the sending unit since it sometimes gives me problems so i guess ill see then. Oh and i was going to undercoat the frame so ill probably check that before i wash the frame.

i hope it isn't that because I'm in high school and I don't have the budget for a new tank.

If you think that might be the problem and it will be awhile before you tear into it keep an eye out on fb marketplace, trs facebook page and the classifieds here for someone parting out a similar cab/bed configuration truck and snag a used one. I poked a used tank in mine, get new fuel tank straps and make a weekend out of it! :icon_thumby:

Hate to say this, but just don't fill it as full before you have time to investigate the repair. Assuming you have a working fuel gage, ought to be able to estimate how much can go in the tank, then stop a couple gallons before full.

No sense in letting it spill on the ground, wasting a buck or so at each fill up.
