I wasn't going to remove reservoir that's already there just put a check valve just B4 the inlet to the check valve that failed. Your saying that ll make it run like shit for a bit after startup?
Mine does.

So bad i thought i had coolant sensor issues.

Like it is hard to get started, then for 30 seconds or a min after it does start if you do anything but very lightly slide into the go pedal it just stalls.

That check valve in the reservoir is that big a deal to get it to run correctly? What was Ford thinking! My ranger i eliminated all that shit on the frame and put high pressure in tank and away I went.Replaced all fuel lines and all An fittings.id do same thing on bronco but hate to do it to such a shitty engine.

So you went with a later model in tank pump with the plastic housing around it? A couple of problems to get around on that. First, at some time Ford changed the way the sending unit works with reversing and changing the ohms. I do not know when they did it on the rangers, but the big trucks it was 1987 when they changed it.

And I guess you would have to do a little re-wiring, the plug for the sending unit is different? Any other little problems to overcome?

How did you re-run the fuel lines? I re-did mine and used Ni-Copp hard lines with short pieces of rubber fuel line and double hose clamps. That was when I converted my 1984 carbed BII to 1986 fuel injection.

I did all this when I V8 swapped it. I used the regular 87 hanger sending unit. Bought a AEM high pressure pump 340l, put it on factory 87 hanger. No rewiring at all. Ran braided hoses with AN fittings all the way to engine. Deleted all Ford's mistakes they put the frame. Done! I probably should of been more specific on last post. Sorry about that . But I'm pretty sure you could do same thing on a 2.9l no problem at all.

I am surprised it doesn't throw a fit when you let the fuel tank get low on fuel. The old tanks did not have any baffles or any plastic tubes that went around the fuel pump. That is why they used the reservoir and 2 or 3 pumps. Your does ok going around turns with the fuel level low in the tank?

So, my 89 Bronco II started leaking from the fuel tank last year. I ordered a new plastic one from Bronco Graveyard but for several reasons didn’t get it installed until this year. Originally I was just going to use the old pump since it still worked and just fix the float for the sender, right up until I went to pull the old pump and saw how rusty things were, then I decided it would be easier and wiser to just drop a new pump in. The original metal 89 tank had no baffles or sump, and neither did my new plastic tank.

My 88 I was going to just fix up the factory system of two pumps when I put it back together. Thing is, rust is a major problem around here so replacing the tank with plastic in that too just sounds like a good idea. Add in the fact that my 89 runs waaayyy better with the new tank and pump than ever. So, my new plan is to just throw a plastic tank and single high pressure pump in the 88 and do whatever I need to so it works. Should actually improve running I’m thinking. Certainly did for my 89 and I haven’t even gotten to replacing the cobbled together lines in the 89 yet.

I see that. I just looked up a fuel pump for a 89 and it looks pretty much like the earlier 2 pump units. That certainly would simplify the fuel system and get rid of the frame mounted pump.

Haven't had an issue yet and it's been like 4 yrs since the swap. But I'm not taking corners at 50 either on an almost empty tank. I ran tank pretty low also still no issues. I can't be the only person on here thats done it that way? Right? I'm curious what other people have done on there V8 swaps? I hope other people chime in on this.

Alot of the aftermarket pumps are pretty close to size as the Ford OEM ones.so making it fit OEM hanger and make it work wasn't that difficult at all. And it deleted all that crap on the frame

I was finding myself trying to justify why Ford did all that mess on the frame. It looks like it was not needed and some Ford engineer "over engineered" the first fuel injection fuel supply systems.

Im.proof that it can all be deleted using a none baffled gas tank and it still works as it should. Hope this helps .
