Well this morning I got a call to jump start a friends truck. I noticed that I had an unusual vibration to my truck. On the way back I made a left turn and WAM! The drive shaft beat the crap out of the bed, gas tank, and exhaust. I got up under the truck and found that the bolt that holds the flange on the transfer case snapped off :pissedoff: This is the first time I have ever seen this happen. What a way to start a morning.... Oh and this is my beloved 88:bawling:

I am glad it wasn't my 02. I would probably have just died on the spot if it would have been. It would have been nice if I could have seen it coming.
I guess the next step getting the broke off bolt out.....

Don't feel too bad dude. I did that once at 80 MPH, 'cept it was the u-joint, not the flange bolt. That was on my old 2-piece shaft.

It ain't pretty, is it?

If I don't forget I post pics sometime this weekend. Funny thing, the rest of the bolt is trapped by the universal. Looks like it might have been broken for sometime.

Here are some pics, the camera isn't the best...

The shaft still attached to drive shaft

The flange output on the drive shaft

Rear of the T-case, shaft broken almost flush to the splines

I am so glad the 4X4 works on this truck or I would never had made it home :D

I don't know how long it will take, but I am determined to find a manual T-case.

I just sold mine. NC is a bit far away though. It shouldn't be too hard to find though, there were more manuals than electronics back then.
