Front diff

01 Ranger edge 4x4, Need to reseal the front diff cover, Looks a little close to the front crossmember, I didnt want to get started and find myself having to pull the front axle. Does Anybody know for sure that the cover will come out.

You have to pull the front axle.

Yup, the axle has to come out to remove the diff cover.

It's not that bad though. If you take the axle shafts and front drive shaft out too, you can throw the wheels back on and drive it like normal if you need to.

I've pulled the front axle without even touching the drivers side cv axle, ball joint, etc. on more than one occasion. I've done it on the ground, and in the air. On the ground is much easier with the drivers side suspension compressed. I found these instructions below over at Explorer Forum, and it saved A LOT of work. He says 1.5 hours out, 1.5 hrs in, and I've matched that time.

Oh, and I concur with adsm08 - it's really not that bad of a job.

No problem. My method did vary slightly from his. I popped the ball joint out of the knuckle rather than taking the upper control arm off.
