I found one on craigslist, a 97 3.0 and tranny for 500 bucks, most of the harness. what is involved? im kinda new to all the rangers and ALL the different engine/tranny combos out there. what is my best bet? Im just looking for economy for daily driving.

the 3.0 is not the way to go if you're looking for economy. The 4 cyl. trucks usually get much better mileage.
You can do the 3.0, but you'll need everything that touches the motor. Engine, trans, exhaust, wiring harness, computer, etc. The easiest thing to do would be to try and find another 2.3, and just drop it in. It should be a plug in, bolt on deal.
