Found on road...

So I was driving down the road and saw a black, slightly bigger than football size object. Cranked a U and found what looks to be at least a 5hp 240V motor. Other the an external fan bent a bit, and some road rash, it looks to be new. Still has blue grease on the shaft. Unfortunately it is a flange mount and I've never seen or used one before. I will have to research applications.

No pictures, but the biggest I've found was a heavy duty trailer ramp/tailgate in the early 2000s. Like what you'd find on a utility trailer at the big box store, but heavier. Was in the middle of a curve on a busy two lane road. Stopped loaded it in the truck and carried it home. Needed to be out of the road cause it would have damaged a vehicle running over it, but no good place to put it on the side of the road either. Was going to make it a ramp into a utility shed for my motorcycle, but never did. Not sure what happened to it. Dad probably cut it up for something else.

Meanest thing I've ever found in the road was probably around 25 years ago. Dad and I were riding down the road on our hunting club. I was probably about 12 at the time and we were in the F-100 in my signature. There was a snake in the road that actually sruck at the wheel as we rolled past. Of course a venimous snake in the road, we're going to end it before it has a chance to strike a hunter that might walk down the road. Well turned out to be a Cottonmouth and the thing had already been shot, half it's head was already missing and it was still striking at the truck. Ok, probably why it was striking at the truck, I'd be a little pissed off too if someone had blown half my face off.

I've found all sorts of stuff... found a 6" vise jaw (just the bar piece), a big like 5/8" size chain hook (used it for the top link chain on my tractor 3point forks), a couple 1' long pieces of 1" solid steel square bar a couple years apart, a 12"x18" piece of 1/4" steel plate, a semi mud flap, a semi wheel chock, two 6" long 1/4" drive extensions, an 8mm L handle allen wrench (the kind with the molded handle) and I'm sure others... I keep a harbor freight extendable magnet in the daily driver just for such occasions (to grab stuff out the window while in traffic, how I got the extensions and allen wrench...)

damn. Only good thing ive ever found was an 8ft werner fiberglass ladder.

Only thing I’ve every stopped to pick up was a pair of 10 or 12” Snapon slip joint pliers. Love those pliers, a lot more useful than they look. One of the two Snapon tools I own.

Flange mount motors are pretty common for industrial machines. Usually hooked up to a gearbox to change the final speed. Easy enough to make a plate with four holes to mount it to.

Look like this but missing a grippy, and more beat up.

Looks like the drive motor for a hydraulic power unit. They mount vertically on the top of the tank and run a submerged pump.

Flange mount or "C-face" motors are normally coupled directly to a gearbox or pump.

I just know those things aren't cheap. Someone could be just SOL and in a big bind. Seems my drill mill had a similar looking motor... but 120V.

I just know no good deed goes unnoticed.
