The guy made money. That was his only goal and he was good at it. Fords record for founders, CEOs ect is really really terrible. They have one of the darkest pasts in all corporate history. I think only that weird fruit company and the drug company that charged 50 grand for a dose of insulin top ford for evil...

Slaves, drugs, nazis, war crimes, insurance fraud, flat out murder... ford did em all.

For the era I don’t know if they were too bad.

He was a pretty incredible guy. A lot of his cars were appliances but they did what the had to and kept the lights on.

The guy that played him in the movie made him look like a pretty cool guy.
Our family experience with Chrysler products was poor. Mainly transmission problems. People keep buying them, so we may have just been unlucky.

Outside of his time with Chrysler, I have little experience with him as a public figure or a car guy, so I have no opinion about him as a person.

I've seen some things about Ford when Henry Ford was running it that was not very good. Like when he built a rubber plantation in South America for making tires in house. I got the impression he was a fan of socialist government system and was very controlling. The project didn't last long.

He didn't like the British having a monopoly on the market. Ford's thing kinda flopped along until synthetic rubber made the whole thing moot after WWII.

Lots of people say lots of different things, he blew a lot of minds when he payed double the average salary in his plants to get and keep good workers. But I think he was kind of on the harsh side because for double the average pay he didn't want the early 20th century equivalent of people hiding in the bathroom and playing on their phones.

Lots of history about him and the Ford name.
Main reason he paid the unheard of $5.00 per day salary was primarily so he could sell more cars. His workers were now able to buy his cars, and any worker who was found to own or drive another make/brand, was fired.
They could also now afford to shop in his company stores and afford his housing.
He also detested unions and thought if he paid more his workers wouldn't try to unionize.
He was also anti-semantic, and a racist, and had close ties with anti- Judaism organizations and the KKK. He also tried his damndist to not help during WW I and WW II. During both it took the Govt threatening to take over his company before he relented. They got around him in WW II by dealing with his son.
All in all he was a nasty, single minded person who ran the company his way, and only his way. He was not interested in progress, was opposed to any type of modifications or modernization of his Model T, and had it not been for his son and lagging sales, we would still be driving Model T's.

No, just a history buff. Military, Civil War, WW I and WW II, transportation, cars, trucks, ships, planes, ect.
I have always been a voracious reader.
Wasn't just Ford...almost all of your 19th and early 20th century mega moguls were cut throat, mean, nasty people who only cared about money. To them money was power.
They would lie, cheat, and kill or have killed anyone in the way of advancing their agenda. They had the power and $ to do just about anything they wanted.
Against some of them, Ford was a pussy cat.

Too bad we can't get a similar story with Jim going to war building offroad Rangers for Ford...
How did I miss this?

If Ford used my ideas to build a better off-road Ford Ranger to beat out Chevy and Toyota, I'd never get any credit or mention anyway.

I still think it would be cool to:

Build an older Ranger or Bronco II as a SEMA truck as a group of 'forum enthusiasts' that could beat out the concept trucks built by big businesses with corporate sponsors.

Great movie. I feel like it was more about Carrol Shelby and Ken Miles, then Ford and Ferrari. The movie doesn't exactly paint Ford Motor Co in the greatest light, or make them look like the good guys. But you'll have to watch and see if you agree.

Spoiler alert, I came across this which compares the movie to what is known about real life:
