What F-150 did you have in mind?

Explorer engines fit better, depending on what trans you want 97-05 V6 M5OD 5-speed manual out of an F-150 fits nice, and '150's have better t-cases than AWD Explorers (if you want real 4wd)

Pre 97 F series EFI engines intakes are too tall to clear even with a body lift. The front engine accessory drive (fead) stick out farthest from the engine, making cooling fan fitment difficult. As stated, the 5.0 explorer has the best selection and parts, the tightest FEAD of all EFI 5.0's and for 95-97 rangers, is almost a plug n play swap...

Ok what if I put a 5.0 mustang engine under it with an f150 4x4 tranny, would that work?? I know engines and and transmittions usually go together
