DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 25, 2019 – Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for select 2019 Ford Ranger vehicles.

In affected vehicles, the inline electrical connector terminals for the tail lamps may be misaligned or not properly seated. Misaligned or improperly seated terminals can result in intermittent or inoperative tail lamps. Intermittent or inoperative tail lamps can result in loss of stop, turn, rear position, and reverse lamps, which can reduce the vehicle’s visibility and may not fully alert other drivers that the vehicle is braking, turning, or reversing, increasing the risk of a crash. The high-mounted center stop lamp is not affected.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

This action affects 72,718 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories and 5,546 in Canada.

Affected vehicles were built at Michigan Assembly Plant from June 4, 2018, to Aug. 16, 2019.

Dealers will inspect the underbody inline connector and, if a terminal is loose, it will be re-pinned into a replacement connector. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S43.

We have done about 10 of these recalls so far and only found one bad one.

It would be interesting to see what adsm08 has seen. From the description in the recall, it sounds like a connector or connectors might have not been assembled on the wiring correctly.

No idea, I'm not the one doing them.

I have seen a page of the recall instructions laying on the parts counter.

Your punctuation makes it sound like you are upset the dealer caused you a minor inconvenience to make sure that a potentially major safety issue was resolved before allowing you to take possession of the vehicle.

Further reading on another notice about the recall, it looks like when the connector was pinned, it may have not been done correctly. If there is a found fault, the dealer is directed to re-pin the connector.
