Daughter has a 2009 Ford Fusion, which has been a good car
She would like to sit up higher so was looking to get an SUV but a mid sized
She may go new but I like 3 or 4 year old myself, lol

Anyone have any comments on the 2015-2018 models

Well my mom had an 2013 Mkx which is just a rebadged edge, and now has a 2020 edge. Both were/are awesome. But the edge even though it's considered "mid size" is quite a bit bigger in every aspect than the escape. It feels and handles heavier, it still handles great but feels like you're driving a truck or suv where the escape feels more like a car.

If she is use to a fusion going to an escape would probably feel like she's still driving the same car so I would go the escape route...

See what I did there?

But I also think the Edge is just a more solid all around vehicle so if she drives both and likes both I would go with the edge. But it also costs more so... there's that lol...

They are very similar in the years your looking at but the edge is just heavier, beefier, etc.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
My wife had a Fusion years ago and loved it. She traded that in on her first Escape and was worried that it was “too big”. She soon realized it was the same vehicle with a taller roof... she’s owned 4 Escapes and now a Bronco Sport since then.

If I marry you can I have a new bronco too?

We had an 11 Edge... car was pretty much flawless except I had to put a brake booster in it at close to 200K... we drove it to 240K and sold it cheap to our oldest daughter. She made it to 270K and sold it for more then we sold it to her for.

We now have a 17 Escape... no problems so far with 110K on it... except the battery died on one of this past winters negative temp weeks.

It pretty much comes down to if they want to stick to the same size vehicle or move up. I haven’t heard anything bad about either.

If you're looking at any Escape, have the undercarriage inspected thoroughly for rot. They're notorious for being rotten around the suspension mounts while the body looks pristine.

After looking at the EcoSport, the Edge & the Escape we decided on the Escape (ours is an '18 Titanium). We discounted the Ecosport as it was too small, under horsepowered & we didn't like the way it sat on those tiny 16" wheels. We did not chose the Edge because it was too large for my wife to feel comfortable in (she can't back up a vehicle to save her life..lol). We selected the Escape seeing as it felt the right size & with the Titanium it offered us the wanted standard options that the lower models did not.

We also looked at GM, Hyundai & Kia powered forced induction engines & the 2 liter Ecoboost outshone the rest. That powertrain is used in both the Edge & the Escape SEL/Titanium but the fuel mileage in the Escape is a bit better seeing as the Escape is lighter. We feel we made the right choice. For what it's worth the 2020 is a mistake.

Ron: seeing as you're in B.C?.........you don't have to worry about salt rot.......(lucky you.......lol)

In the 2 years we've owned it I tinted the front door glass & dropped the suspension.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We replaced our 2011 Escape with a new 2016 and are likely to buy another Escape next time. The 16 is a 2.0 EcoBoost awd and it gets high 20's consistently while having decent power. It's a good little station wagon but they have to call it an SUV to get people to buy it.

Everyone has to worry about rot. Vehicles cross borders, are bought and sold, imported/exported...

Of course, a Carfax will tell you a lot..

She's leaning towards the Edge with the V6
But she has yet to test drive either model, lol

Only 20? Is there a lot of stop and go traffic in that? My CR-Vs did about 23-24 with a naturally aspirated 2.0. Or does somebody have a heavy foot?

He said high 20's. I don't drive my wife's escape much but she is right there too... high 20's. She has a heavy foot and a driving record to prove it. That is also with a mix of city and highway... also a bunch of traffic... it is Chicago after all.

They both are decent vehicles, but they are enough different in size that most people have a strong preference to one or the other. She should drive both because she will very likely want one much more than the other.

High 20's, like 26-29 mpg. No comment on the heavy foot.
