Hey guys, been a member for YEARS now, but lots of life events over the last several years kept me off the board. Anyway, Im back to wrenching on my 94 1/2 Ranger Super cab 2whl drive with a 302 Conversion ( rescued a project someone else walked away from) Its got a rebuilt AOD upgraded to 4R70W internals. The truck came with an electric speedo, so I bought an Autometer Hall Effect sensor kit for the speedo. A buddy of mine thats a pretty damn good mechanic ( general not brand specific) has been slowly wrenching on it in exchange for crashing on my couch. He put in the Autometer thing today, wired it up and we both felt really confident that would do the trick to get my speedo working again. Last night he was able to get the oil psi gauge and tach reading properly ( hacked to hell factory 4.0 harness, its a long story for when I make my build thread).

Anyway, I took it out for a spin tonight after work to see if the speedo was fixed and NOTHING. Looking for any tips or suggestions. He did take the trans side gear off the old sending unit and put it on the new Autometer kit. And he's a former electrician by trade, so he knows wiring and electrical systems inside and out. So unless he somehow misidentified a wire in the harness, we are both confident his wiring work ISNT the issue.

Can he plug it in, turn the key to run, and twirl the sensor gear and get the speedo to read? If it does, you may have a gear engagement or size problem on the tailshaft.
