Guess what company America is choosing to do work?

This is a local horse show in Jersey. Mine being the smallest, a 08 F150 on the right. Just blew my mind that theyre was only 1 Dodge and 1 Chevy.

It always amazes me what people need to haul a horse around... as a whole I just don't get horse people anyway. :icon_confused:

It seems they think very highly of themselves once they get a dually and a triple axle air conditioned horse trailer...

Yes. These people are all about pissing away money. Ive met some really stuck up people. But my girls passionate about it so we try to keep up with it. a typical horse maybe wieghs under 1500lbs, that plus trailer wieght, you DONT need the biggest truck to pull.

My 150 drove 45 min their and back with 1 horse on the trailer shown and didn't even feel him. I could prob of done 2 horses.
Regardless I just thought it was cool to see Ford everywhere.

More power to them. :icon_thumby:

Fords are by far the most common thing to be driven by farmers in our area... Dodges do seem to be mounting a comeback (not really a comeback though because they were never really there to start with)

I used to haul 2 horses in a 16' stock trailer behind my 4.0L Ranger and later behind my 3.4L Tacoma........ also used to pull a 24' deck 2 axle utility trailer with 3 tons of hay every month behind both

so no, you don't need the biggest. but if you got more than a few horses and cows and don't get your feed delivered a 1 ton helps out quite a bit.

GOOD to hear, because I'm dropping a 4.0 in my Ranger and I'd like her to use it. I went with the 4.0 trans too. I'm prob going to install a oil and trans temp guage. She wont be hauling with it that much, she prob prefers the 150, but I think the Ranger would be cool with a guage pod up the left pilar

I wouldn't be surprised if it was better empty too, especially if it is the one in his avatar.

I wasn't going to say that ...... but my 91 4.0L/auto 2wd ranger got 20mpg on the hwy but ....... towing that stock trailer I got 8mpg ..... because I could not use OD.

the Taco was a 4wd with a 5sd and got 22-24 hwy and I got 12 pulling the same trailer but it was a 9 year newer pick up.

da buck fitty should be getting 14 with that trailer...... or better ......

My '02 5.4 4x4 on stock rubber put down a pretty reliable 18-19mpg.

Never tied into an enclosed trailer, just flatbeds with machinery on board... low teens but it was a lot heavier than two horses in a horse trailer.

this is what I have discovered after 14 years of tractor trailer...... Drag is a bigger factor on mileage than weight over 50 mph. Under 50 mph then drag is no longer a factor.

I can take a Flatbed loaded 48000# of rebar where the load is only 16" tall the full length of the trailer and pull better fuel mileage than a 53' Van loaded with 9000# of foam. Conversely....... The van will get better mileage if I have to add a tarp...... dragging a load with a tarp is like pulling a parachute behind you.

Weight does matter to a certain degree, and it would be significant between my tractor/plow on a flatbed vs a couple horses in a trailer.

It is a lot easier to pull the empty trailer than it is with my 5000lb tractor on it. :D
