Yeah I've heard people say that lockers are dangerous in the ice/snow, but I've also heard people who actually drive their locked trucks in the winter time and they prefer it. Like you said, it just takes some getting used to. I'm sure that if you treat it with a good degree of respect and stay out of the throttle than you'll be fine.
I find it interesting that the same people who warn against lockers in the winters rave on and on about how great limited slips do on slick roads. I don't see how a stiff or aggressive limited slip would behave any different in similar conditions.
