ok this truck which is a 79 F250 4x4 which only get used to plow out my drive way in the winter. It has had this probem for a while which is getting anyoning trying to fix. berfore it will start you litertley have to pump the gas 30-50 times before it will start. I had the carb rebuilt installed a new fuel pump filter and new line going from the pump to the carb. and it still has this problem my uncle rebulilt the carb and i had him tear it apart again too see if there was a problem couldn't find one. his says if the gas tank is getting shit inside it that the dirt and crud could be getting on the screen and when i shut the truck off it act's like a suction and pulls the gas out of the carb. is this possiable or do you think the carb is junk. i don't want to waste money on a part that dosn't fix the problem. if its the gas tank i wthought about cutting the gas line behind the cab and running a ruber hose to a 5 gallon gas can and throughing it in the bed since it only get used for plowing snow who cares.

Ive bought rebuilt carbs from autozone and theyve been bad.

In your case...are you sure the choke is working? The 300 is an absoulte bitch to start with no choke.

well its an auto choke which i'm pretty sure dosn't work the flap on top is always fully open. it just seems the carb is dry. usually if i pour gas down the carb it starts right up. but it will start all day just fine once you get it started. just does this after it sits over night or longer.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
put a manual choke on it or run a starter fluid line.

Put a manual choke on it.

My 83 did the same thing, auto chokes are nice when they work.

Try this....

Before you start it and after its sat all nite go out and pop the hood, pull the air cleaner and look on the carb. You'll see a little black round plastic thing with 3 screws on it. Loosen the screws and turn it (i believe counterclockwise) untill the choke plate closes, tighten the screws and see if it starts.

If it does all you got is a bum choke and you need to put a manual one on (eaisest option) or get the automatic one working (Pain in the ass).
